These Plants Will Turn Your Home into a Health Powerhouse
Plants can be an amazing addition to your home. They create oxygen, can provide delicious herbs or veggies for homecooked meals, and are even great practice for taking care of a living thing before you take the step to adopt a pet or have a baby! We love that plants purify the air we breathe and can lift our spirits with their beauty. Here are some of our favorite and healthiest plants you can add to your home!
Peace Lily
With a name like that, how could you go wrong? Peace lilies have been named by NASA as “one of the most efficient natural filters,” according to HGTV. They eliminate indoor pollutants, leaving your home with fresher, safer-to-breathe air. They can also absorb electromagnetic radiation emitted by computers. But beware, lilies can be toxic to pets!
Red Aglaonema
Not gonna lie, I have no idea how to pronounce that. Red is known to be a stimulating color, promoting appetite and energy levels, making this beautiful plant the perfect addition to your kitchen, living room, or anywhere you could use a little extra boost.
Jade Plant
This beautiful plant is especially good at absorbing toluene, a chemical pollutant emitted by cars, gasoline, kerosene, oil, paints, and lacquers, according to a study done by SUNY Oswego. The leaves resemble beautiful jade jewels, making them the perfect accent to your interior design.
Fern
Ferns and other big-leafed plants are great for increasing humidity in the air. They’re perfect if you live somewhere dry or need some added moisture in during the cold months. I love hanging ferns, they look like a firework explosion of greenery and brighten up any room.
Ficus
A ficus is a very common houseplant, and for good reason. They absorb odors and can reduce the amount of microorganisms and toxic substances in the air. If your home needs a little freshening up, this is the perfect addition to your plant-fam.
Snake Plant
These are some of the easiest plants to take care of, making them one of my personal favorites (I am a very loving plant-mom, but unfortunately not very good at the job). I used to live in an apartment that got very poor light and any plant I brought home never lasted very long, except for my beloved snake plant! These are great for the bedroom, because they release oxygen at night, helping you breathe better when you’re sleeping.
Herbs
I LOVE growing herbs, I currently have a few small pots of mint, basil, and parsley growing on my kitchen window sill. They’re super easy to grow and are super useful to have on hand while cooking. Personally, whenever I buy herbs from the grocery store, I use about half of the container and then the rest gets old in just a matter of days, not to mention the plastic waste from the clamshell packaging. Instead, I grow my favorite herbs for a waste-free and cost-effective way of adding flavor to my meals!
Are you inspired? Because I’m currently planning out my next trip to the nursery. My dream is for my apartment to resemble a jungle and I hope to one day make that a reality. In the meantime, I’ll start with my snake plant, herb garden, and a couple of ficuses!
