Anna Sui NYFW 2021: A Confluence of Vibrance

By Noyonika Sircar

Anna Sui’s 2021 collection for NYFW was a confluence of vibrance. For the first digital show, Anna Sui maneuvered all the existing possibilities, to create a spectacular collection difficult to forget. Inspired by the documentary, the collection is an ode to the female impressionist painter Berthe Morisot.

The colors were picked from 1996 Czech Movie Daisies, the serenity of rose, ivory, jade. Gathering all of them together, Sui crafted a collection of petite patterns, prints, patchwork, embroidery for every piece in the collection. The details were the key to her vision. The collection was called “Heartland” and was the closest to her. The one that stood out to us the most is the white dress, with the wealth of embroidery and loose bell sleeves. It was a mix of layers of patterns merging with the floral chiffons. The dresses showcased were refreshing from the traditional monotony of florals and colours. The collection was a collaboration of all her memories, sustainable and versatile.
