Rebecca Minkoff Spring Summer 2021: The Collection That Brought Light To NYF

By Noyonika Sircar

Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection ushered in the aura of a botanical garden in the cold urban jungle: New York City. The collection was hosted in a socially distanced format at Spring Studios Terrace produced by Klarna. The show had a huge involvement of technology as the designer used XR extended reality in partnership with Verizon Media 5G content. This gives the viewers an access to 360 degree fashion shows on phones. This show was live streamed on TikTok and Instagram.

The collection was wrapped around a spirit of fun, amidst the grave shift of the fashion world overnight since the onset of the pandemic. Minkoff showcased some trends of today like fringes and extreme shoulder details, for the pragmatic zoom looks. The prints were blooming with florals coupled with flowy hemlines, animal prints, oversized details, leopard and zebra and vibrant tone of colors calling for the spring. The best piece was the tonal, classic print on print look matched with a mask, that nudges in perfectly with the clarion call of our times.

The femininity of the whole show was very pronounced —— textures and the cuts of the dresses with voluminous sleeves, loose fits. The colour palette was minimal 70s khaki, caramel with suede and denim handbags. Overall , it was a pleasant show, giving the audience reasons to celebrate the times we are living in.
