Stepping Into The World of The Architectural Digest Design Show
This past weekend, Pier 92 hosted the 2019 Architectural Design Digest Show. The show’s iconic mission was about bringing the top of the line and one-of-a-kind products in design- furniture, accessories, lighting, kitchen, hardware, art, and much more.
The iconic AD Department was designed by the eccentrically fun designer Sasha Bikoff, who reimagined the venue’s landscape in a colorful away. Also, DIFFA ‘s DINING BY DESIGN 2019 featured over 20 magnificent dining installations-all to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS research (beyond honorable).
It was amazing to see the AD Design Show’s exciting lineup of exhibits by some of the most highly revered brands- many of which launched new products at the show- as well as succulent eats, fun programming, great shopping opportunities, and plenty of inspiration for decorating your home !
Check out some of my highlights on the designs from the show!
Stevie Howell
Stevie Howell is a woman of all trades . As a painter, designer , and painter , she creates textiles in a multifaceted way - handcrafting and digitalization that allows for many shapes, colors and layers. The result is Bohemian chic, organic , and out of this world .Talk about a textile queen!
Opiary
As someone who thoroughly enjoys everything green or nature, I had to make my way over to this display. Opiary encompasses the natural elements of the whole world into every piece created. Each piece is handmade with recyclable and natural materials by crafts people and artist at the studios in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Ultimately, high-quality designs and experimentation allow nature’s resources to become timeless structural designs.
Elbra
Portuguese- based interior design company Emotional Brands Elbra has offered customized product design , and exquisite quality as they combine futurism and modernism to bedrooms, living rooms, and offices alike. Can we get into this rose- shaped mirror ? Delightful!
Shiplights
I don’t know what it is , but rich hues of blue always remind me of water and beaches off the coast. This becomes fitting when I encountered Shiplights, whose light fixtures bring back childhood memories of my family home on the island of Jamaica. The durable solid brass lighting the company offers, has an array of finishes from powder coats, satin nickels and un-lacquered brass to name a few.
SMEG X Dolce &Gabbana
Italian brands unite! Italian appliance manufacturer SMEG (Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla), whose best known for their classic Mediterranean style and advanced technology, stood out in the crowd ( as many spectators captured photos of it) because of their collaboration with culturally flamboyant fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. SMEG emulates the “Made in Italy” by combining design , details ( hence the rich color schemes) , and high-quality performance. The distinctive collection is something I wouldn’t mind gracing my apartment !
