Parisian Pastries: The Best in the 8/9 Arrondissement
Salut à tous! Once again, this is your lifestyle-turned-travel editor Taylor here reporting on the best of the best to see, eat, and drink when in Paris. The first of my cultural experiences was a darling little coffee/pastry tour in the neighborhoods of Montmartre and le Marais, so we’ll start there: Parisian coffee shops.
I’ve spoken very highly of my experience with Airbnb Experiences thus far, and in my first one I learned of several novel little coffee and pastry shops scattered through Montmartre and Le Marais. I’ll include those here, as well as one or two I found elsewhere that are worthy to note:
Sain Boulangerie - 15 Rue Marie et Louise, 75010 Paris
Careful, if you blink you might miss it - this bakery is teeny. But the small space they do have is used efficiently, serving just enough for their baking paraphernalia (including massive bread making equipment) and a bit of cute window decor. Ask about their origin story, which entails its founder arriving to Paris from Italy by train with little else but a vision in mind for how to build his business.
Boulangerie Utopie - 20 Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, 75011 Paris
Bonjour, charcoal baguettes! That’s right, in my Insta stories I shared a vid of me biting into a dark black piece of bread, which looked as bizarre as it felt doing it...but it tasted the exact same as a plain baguette! Their bread and pastries leave a long line that goes out the door, regardless of weather or season.
Yann Couvrer - 23bis Rue fed Rosiers, 75004 Paris
He-llo, best desserts of my life. Here I indulged in a chocolate croissant and never looked back. It’s also located on one of those lovely cobblestoned rues in Paris that’s so small even a Smart Car would be challenged for space. Light wooden accents, favorable lighting that seems to make their pastries shine, and ancient stone walls knit together a pleasing aesthetic in this wonderful little patisserie. The friends at YC even wished us all a foxy Valentine’s Day!

It’s as if King Louis XIV, the Sun King himself, carved out a slice of Versailles and decreed it be turned into a pastry shop. This little spot, nestled in the bustling Marais neighborhood, is gorgeous from its blue-tiled floors flecked with gold accents to its regal portrait-painted ceilings decked with a chandelier. It’s also the oldest pastry shop in Paris.
Each of these spots and many more throughout Paris are worth visiting! Where are some of your favorite spots for a sweet snack in the City of Light?
