Trend Alert: Sheer, Mesh, Slips: Is Less the New More?
Sheer tops, mesh blouses, and slip dresses are becoming more and more ubiquitous in fashion. Regardless of the season, there’s a piece for each one. A sheer top as a cover-up in the Summer for a day at the beach, a romantic blouse with mesh statement sleeves for the Spring or Fall season, and lastly, an elegant slip dress under your wool coat for the Winter. We get it, these pieces are not the most conventional and they’re definitely not for everyone, but it’s a trend that is factored into most clothing nowadays. Brands like For Love & Lemons, Zara, and Free People are utilizing these trends into their pieces and they sure have our attention!
Sheer and mesh pieces-- it’s all about layering. And I’m not talking about a shirt over it. What’s the purpose? No, a sheer piece can be anything from a top, to a skirt, to even a dress. Wearing a sheer top is the best opportunity to show off your favorite lace bralette. The sheer top is the best layering piece, which will show just enough and not too much. For a piece like a mesh dress, you can definitely layer it over a pair of your favorite denim jeans. Whether you’re wearing it with a camisole or just a bralette, this outfit screams bold and daring.
With slip dresses, I only have one question-- who actually wears them to sleep? What a waste. This lingerie piece has been a trend that is proven to be immortal. From Marilyn Monroe in the ‘50s to Cindy Crawford in the early 2000s, and now Kendall Jenner in 2019. Slip dresses are no longer served as the inner lining to a gown or something to wear to bed. It’s a piece that has evolved and come in several different styles. Maxi, midi, or mini, you name it. Coming in different lengths, styles, colors, detailings, you name it. A slip dress should be a staple in every girl’s closet.
Women’s fashion has taken many turns throughout the years and generations, but these styles are here to stay. Seen on many designers’ collections on the runway or just simply in fast-fashion, there are many ways to get away with wearing something completely see-through and, STILL look like a classy lady.
