Real Talk: Stop Laughing At World War 3 Memes

I love a good meme or gif as much as the next person, but I have my limits. That said, I don’t really give any of my attention to religious or violent memes. I'm just not a fan of those taboo jokes that take critical and sensitive issues and make light of them. I believe the category is the “ dead baby” jokes ( even the name offends me). I get that humor is a way of relief, and I understand that it’s not to be taken serious. But isn’t war serious? Before I heard what is being discussed on capitol hill, I saw a meme about it. That is no way to gather news, but World War 3 memes and gifs were trending on my twitter feed and while I was sitting in the break room at my other job, I heard a coworker say she was in tears laughing about a meme about it.

The idea seems so unfathomable that it sounds like a tall tale. We would never enter into another war that has the severity of world war two. Bu,t I am sure we all thought it was amusing  that Trump was running for president, until he actually won. I know this sounds like a rant, and trust me I am not one to be a troll or pass judgement. However, I am just weary that we are not seeing it from all angles.

War means families are concerned about their relatives that are serving in the military, they are now faced with what this means for them. There are children and young adults with parents in the military, and I’m sure the last thing they want to see is a meme joking about a war that mom or dad may take part in. It’s not funny because the possibility is real. My sister serves, and that’s probably why I am so triggered. Although, I am not worried because her position in the military is not front lines, the notion of war is a little too close for comfort. My brother on the other hand is extremely worried and spoke out about it on his instagram. Im not here to make you feel bad if you shared a few laughs amongst friends. I just wanted to offer a perspective that will have you build more of a taste for the quality of memes you give power to.
