Prada is Going Green With Its New/Recycled Handbag Material, ReNylon

To think the luxury house of Prada could not be any more iconic. In 2021, the brand will be repurposing their nylon by launching a range of 6 recycled nylon bags they are calling, “Re-Nylon”. Wanting to reflect a changing time in the shifting world, Prada values sustainability as much as the next brand. Sustainable fashion is becoming more and more popular so with this move, Prada will definitely be aiming for more transparency and revealing the notion that can start the change in the world, one brand at a time.

We all love a bag that can handle all the water spills, stains, scratches-- you name it. What material works best for all of those accidents and incidents? Nylon, of course. Prada has had their trademark nylon bags and accessories since 1984, so revamping these pieces is a huge way to revolutionize and reinvent the past. “Nylon is an emblem of the brand . . . and this project is an evolution of a fundamental code of Prada, a reinvention of heritage,” states Prada. Recycling nylon is one of the most environmentally responsible choices brands can make and studies have shown that nylon fibers make up about 10% of ocean debris. Instead of utilizing virgin nylon, the brand has chosen the option of reusing the nylon which will be a massive reduction of nylon in general, which is crucial to our environment.
