Jennifer Hudson is Paying 'Respect' To Aretha Franklin in Upcoming Biopic
It gives me such an immense amount of joy to know that phenomenal actress and singer Jennifer Hudson will be portraying the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin in the upcoming biopic, Respect .
The film will explore Franklin’s journey of a budding young church choir singer to a highly revered international superstar.
In an interview with People, Hudson states, “We were in talks a long time about me playing her so I just hope I make her proud and do her justice.”
Unfortunately, Franklin died last year from pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. Hudson was one of the performers that was personally requested by Franklin to perform at funeral when the time came.
Moreover, there are high anticipations for this movie for the story line and the cinematography ( Straight Outta Compton producer Scott Benstein is producing the film). Other insiders state that the film creators have their eye on awards season
Respect is set to hit theaters in August of 2020.
