How to Avoid Being a Broke B!tch this Holiday Season

With all the eating out, presents, and parties, the holidays can be rough on a girl’s bank account. And it’s not like you can avoid giving gifts…especially to your besties. But don’t go broke this season by trying to keep up with all the holiday spirit! After all, you’ll still need to pay rent on New Year’s.

Without further ado, here are a few ways to save your money so you don’t start 2020 with a bruised wallet!

Secret Santa, Baby

Have quite a few babes in your squad? Instead of having to spend a ton on gifts, suggest doing secret Santa! That way, you only have to spend money on one girl, and it turns into a cute game of trying to guess who everyone’s secret Santa is! To make it even more budget friendly, don’t forget to set a spending limit.

Lizzie McGuire, You are an Outfit Repeater

If you’re going to be going to a lot of holiday parties this season, don’t keep buying new outfits. Especially if you’re going to wear them once. You say you’re going to wear them again, but we both know that isn’t true. So, instead, put that mentality to the test. Grab something you swore you were going to wear again but haven’t. You might be an outfit repeater, but you’ll be saving cash and the planet. In your face, Kate Sanders.

DIY Queen

Instead of buying a gift, become a DIY queen this season! You can play to your strengths and what you have on hand, too. If you love to bake, make some holiday cookies and put them in cute tins. Love writing? Create poems on craft paper. More into painting? Paint a beautiful picture and put it in a cheap frame. People will love the sentiment that you put time into making something for them. Even better, you get to save money!

Holiday Cheer (at home)

This time of year, getting together for drinks and dinner with friends is the norm. But for us broke b’s, that doesn’t really fly for us. So host a potluck at home instead! You get to make the main course (pasta dishes are cheap, just FYI), and everyone else gets designated to bring a side, dessert, or the booze. Hooray for potlucks saving our wallets!

Hoe, Don’t Do It

If you love to shop like me, read these next words carefully: DON’T BUY ANYTHING FOR YOURSELF. Whatever it is, you don’t need it. There’s so many cute things out right now, and so many good sales but you will not die If you don’t get the pink teddy coat. If you’re dying to have it, snap a pic and send it to a friend or loved one and drop a hint. But otherwise…hoe, don’t do it. You’ll save money by not being an impulse shopper, and you’ll thank yourself later!
