ICYMI: DC Swim Week Brought The Miami Heat and Sexiness For All To Indulge
Washington, DC, wrapped up its final July weekend with a Miami-themed bang, and the city’s finest and most fashionable, were ready to step out to usher it out. Naturally, curious as I am, I joined this stylish gaggle of guests at the Italian Embassy in Northwest to see what all the hype was about.
What a venue indeed, which chicly housed a circular runway layout with flashing cameras positioned in the center. At north, south, east, and west of the runway ring stood towering, blown-up photo murals of beachside sunsets, melting oranges and pinks, each one flanked with palm trees. Tables serving Prosecco, hors d’ourvres, and bite-sized desserts dotted the circumference, and the corner nearest the outdoor patio offered makeovers from local MUAs and cosmetic vendors.
The bikini-clad models were traipsing throughout the room, posing for pictures with guests at the red carpet, helping themselves to light bites, and pausing for additional shoots hugging the palm trees. Attendees clamored for a chance to pose with them on the red carpet, with a monochromatic backdrop of “DC Swim Week” covering the wall.
At the DJ’s flick of a finger, thumping bass filled the room, and even the glammed-to-the-max front-row guests were slack-jawed as the most luxurious and colorful array of swimwear began gliding back and forth, as models alternated left and right to criss-cross walking paths both directions in the runway ring. A simple and graceful choreography, showcasing each designers’ craftsmanship in the most beautiful way, it left us onlookers mesmerized.
The evening was lovely. What better way to celebrate local businesses than by banding them together to outlay an event as fabulous as a fashion show? It was a night to remember (and a reminder to hit the gym to prep for next time I step out on the runway in my own cheeky string bikini because that’s totally my life…)
