Gabrielle Union Relaunches "Flawless by Gabrielle Union"
Back in 2017, Gabrielle Union and her long-time hair stylist Larry Sims launched a haircare line, “Flawless by Gabrielle Union.” The brand did pretty well, boasting products like hair oils and masks, but then Union experienced hair loss from IVF treatments and the project was put on pause. This new decade has brought us many new things, and we’re super excited for the Flawless relaunch.
The new line of products will be available on Amazon in August and will branch out into retail stores in October. Union and Sims are rolling out products like Hydrating Detangling Shampoo, Scalp Soothing Tonic and the 3 Minute Restoring Conditioner, which has been slated to pique the most sales because of its super hydrating natural ingredients. Because Union has had her own hair woes in the past, she knows that people tend to steer away from products that are full of hard-to-pronounce chemicals, which in turn harm the health of locks.
“A lot of our hair products that are targeted for African American hair textures contain silicone. We wanted to take those out. We wanted to really lean into the new technology, new innovation and incorporate hair growth and hair strength, because those are the things that I was dealing with,” she told Essence. “And I know so many of us have dealt with hair loss, balding, breakage, damage.”
Union and Sims have restructured the entire company for its relaunch into the industry; it’s majority-Black owned and is marketed by and toward Black women. The company is their own customer, so these products will keep textured hair in good hands. There’s even more greatness that comes with the line’s resurrection. Every product is under $10, and Sims made sure that the styles shown in advertising would be easy to emulate at home—even if you don’t have an experienced hair stylist on call every morning.
“A lot of women have had issues with premature balding, hormone-induced balding, hair loss, hair breakage, and I wanted to be able to address a lot of these issues but without price gouging,” Union said to WWD. Timing of this relaunch is perfect because Union hopes that women everywhere will want to continue experimenting with their hair at home, even as the COVID-19 quarantine ends and salons open back up for business.
“I never want health and wellness to feel like luxury items,” she told Essence. “Everything I do from here on out for the last couple of years, it has to be affordable and accessible. There is no point in me loving something that the rest of us can’t enjoy.”
Look out for the relaunch of Flawless by Gabrielle Union in August!
