Collina Strada Showcased Her Animal Friends At Fashion Week

By Iris Stigell

Designer Collina Strada showcased her ‘Please Don’t Eat My Friends’ Collection with Nightmare Fueled images of half-man half-animal figures.

People can’t stop talking and posting about Collina Strada’s Fall 2023 show, where the theme of eco-friendly fashion was illustrated in the most literal way possible, by turning its models into animals… The imagery both startled and amused audiences, as models came running, or rather crawling down the runway mimicking meow’s and bark’s in their ethereal ensembles.

The craftsmanship that went into creating these looks is unbelievable and deserves all the chatter it’s getting.

In the age of the eco-friendly fashion and diet movement, what better time than now to bring forth such a child-like, fantastical vision for healthier and collaborative living?

Closet of narnia

It’s hard to pin down one look or subject of focus, as each model brought something new, whether it be the barrel of hay carried down the runway, or the full-head reptilian mask, or the pink mouse-like snout seen on the model’s face, accompanied by a beautifully romantic floral silk ensemble. The show created an ambiance of walking through the closet doors of Narnia, with a hint of the spooky evil monkeys found in the Wizard of Oz.

shock factor

The designer managed to create consistent, yet shocking looks that not only left the audience wanting to buy the pieces, but left them asking the question why? The intersection of theater, art and fashion is so exciting and brings us back to the route of what fashion shows are all about - emulating the message behind the clothes. Behind the beauty and the chaos, the designer is bringing forth a strong and relevant message, about our climate and environment and our urgent need to start working together. The impact of turning the models into these vulnerable animals causes the audience to feel sympathy, and therefore connect further with the issue being commented on.
