California Says "Girl Bye" To Fur, As It Will Officially Be Banned By January 2023

First, it’s plastic straws. Now it’s fur. Fur everything. California’s governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill that will pass on January 1st, 2023 and will ban the selling, trading and donations of any fur or fur-like products. Whether it is clothing, shoes, handbags, hats, keys, etc. Basically, anything “with hair, fleece or fur fibers”. So say goodbye to the Fendi keychains, denim jackets with the fleece collars. Sustainable fashion has arrived, and it’s here to stay.

This ban serves as a movement for many in the fashion industry, especially the luxury brands such as Chanel, Burberry, Versace, Givenchy and many more. Most designers have already steered clear of fur and found creative alternatives. One of the hottest trends right now in fashion is going fur-free. Brands like Michael Kors, Prada and Gucci have recently made the decision to stop using fur. The dramatic change in the industry bifurcates the brands who are for this movement, and those who are not.

When it comes to the truth of the fur industry, one might be a bit disturbed considering thousands of animals are killed for a superficial profit every year. Many animal welfare organizations are hopeful that this new ban will the beginning of the end for fur in the US. Not only is California initiating a movement, but it can become something bigger and definitely inspiring to all.
