NYFW: Pleats, Plaids, and Animal Prints at Elie Tahari Fall 2019

So eminently sewn into the fabric of modern day American shopping is the Tahari label that even my husband knows the name. Clean lines, classic silhouettes, and modern cuts make for a perfectly reliable line of wearable suits, dresses, and coats at diffusion line price points.

And if you’re looking for something more elevated, more elegant, a little more off-the-runway than off-the-rack, Elie Tahari has that, too.

The seasoned designer was last seen on the runways of NYFW five years ago, before he took space from the spotlight to show by appointment only. This year he returned and put a sentimental collection on the catwalk to celebrate 45 years in the business. His fall 2019 ready-to-wear nods nostalgically to the era that marked his beginnings as a designer: the 1970s. The pieces were pulled together by pretty pleating, polished plaids, 70s jewel tones, and a whole lot of animal print.

More Pleats, Please

There’s something about a pleated skirt that makes me extra happy. They’re fun and flirtatious but also sleek, sexy, and totally timeless. Take them to work with a tailored plaid jacket, to an edgy art opening with a black leather blazer, or on a date with a romantic blouse - pleated skirts just plain work!

When in doubt: Plaid

Tahari takes classic plaid for a spin with this beautiful tulle and gold leaf appliqué skirt pairing.

Those 70s Jewels

Seriously, who doesn’t love jewel tones? They’re always beautiful; they’re always bold; and in these luscious modern cuts they are at once relevant as well as 1970s reminiscent.

Animal Prints Everywhere

A friend recently remarked that she feels only a certain type of woman can pull off an animal print. I asked what kind of woman. She said someone with a special confidence; she is self-assured, a little edgy, and grounded in a classic sense of style and beauty. Elie Tahari described this collection as being “...about confidence and attitude and independence.” In that case, I think my friend would approve - animal prints apply.

P.S. Can I Just Have This Suit Please

Because, YES!
