Bebe Rexha Can’t Find A Designer For Her Grammy’s Look Because Of Her Size

Body shaming is one of the biggest problems in society today. For decades, women were told to only love their body if it conforms to society’s standard. If it is even just a little bit different then the what is seen in magazines and on television, then it is not okay and needs to be fixed. Lucky for us women, more and more celebs are revolting against these ideals and teaching women to love the body they are given. A ton of celebs have joined this revolution against body ideals including Khloe Kardashian, Kesha, Bella Hadid and Bebe Rexha.

When Bebe Rexha found out that she was finally awarded for two Grammy’s she was probably more than ecstatic. A Grammy nomination is what most musicians dream of when they set off on their musical journey. The rising star never imagined that her biggest struggle of the event would be finding a designer who would dress her. Bebe Rexha is a beautiful woman, who has paved her own journey in the entertainment industry. However, when she set off to find the perfect dress for her big night, she was shocked at how many designers turned her down simply because of her size. Bebe Rexha couldn’t believe how many designers turned down the opportunity to have their pieces shown on the red carpet, simply because she did not meet a certain body size.

In a series of videos on Instagram she vented her frustrations, “So I finally get nominated at the Grammy’s and it’s like the coolest thing ever. And a lot of times artists will go and talk to designers and they’ll make them custom dresses to walk the red carpet,” explained Rexha, “So I had my team hit out a lot of designers and a lot of them do not want to dress me because I’m too big.” Rexha seems to have the natural curves that many, many women have. She wears a size eight and continued to tell her truth in another video, “You’re saying all the women in the world that are a size 8 and up are not beautiful and that they cannot wear your dresses. So, to all the people you said I’m thick and I can’t wear your dress, fuck you. I don’t want to wear your fucking dresses.” Although this is an unfortunate situation for Rexha she was right to use her platform to reach other women who may have been discriminated against their size.

It is important that celebs reach out to their fans when something like this happens because they may be able to change some lives of girls who feel all alone in these types of situations. The things that go on behind the scenes in Hollywood, are the same things that happen in high school across the country. There may never be a day when women are not discriminated against because they don’t look a certain way, or they are not a certain size but that doesn’t mean influential women who have a platform to speak to fans, shouldn’t at least try to make a change. Even if Rexha just changed one fashion designer’s opinion on women who are a size 8 or larger then that is one more person in the army against beauty ideals.

So, keep talking, keep preaching that all women are beautiful despite what others may tell them. As Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
