Women are magic. We are connected to darkness; and yet, we are the bringers of beauty and light. Hosting parties, building empires, growing gardens, and blazing trails - all while sifting through murkiness to find meaning.
When I was a child, my mother would take me on long walks through the neighborhood and tell me about all of the flowers along our way. She’d pluck the tiny blossoms from the Lantana bush, sprinkle the blooms over my head, and whisper enchantingly, “Pixie dust.” My mother was magic that way; in the midst of a tumultuous marriage and many more of life’s mysteries, she saw beauty everywhere and used her powers to charm the world with art and creativity. My mother was also wildly multifaceted and seemed to contain a potpourri of personalities within her.
The Fall 2019 collection from Alice + Olivia celebrates this female eclecticism - the kaleidoscopic, often dichotomous, and always dazzling whimsy of women. Calling her collection, “fantasia,” Creative Director Stacey Bendet embodied a bouquet of female facets from sexy to a bit more modest, extravagant to subdued, and edgy of-the-moment to classically elegant.
