NYFW: The Future is All Kinds of Female at Christian Siriano's Fall 2019
Fly us to the moon! Let us play among the stars! It was a grand galaxy of celestial female bodies at Christian Siriano’s Fall 2019. Women of beautifully diverse shapes, sizes, and skin tones walked the runway in fantastically futuristic frocks and pant-suits topped with triangular cateye sunglasses, nodding playfully to the angular aesthetic of The Jetsons. Siriano took design cues from an imagined alternate universe, where unencumbered women are at the center of the sphere. Architecturally grand silhouettes, exaggerated ruffles, and reflective silver fabrics turned sci-fi fantasy of a female-dominated universe into dazzling reality on the runway.
We first met Christian Siriano on season four of Project Runway. He became a household name with mass market collaborations, including a line of shoes and bags for Payless, a branded gift card for Starbucks, and recently a capsule collection for ELF Cosmetics. He is heralded for inclusivity of full-figured women on the runway and for his unparalleled passion for designing clothes for women across the size continuum. Siriano returns to Project Runway for the reboot in March.
