NYFW: Letting Go, and Evolving With Mara Hoffman

In true Mara Hoffman fashion, there is a sentimental message behind every collection. Before the show, Hoffman posted a meaningful statement about her past year and what she’s learned throughout putting this whole collection together. “Learning about the LETTING GO. Allowing things to die with grace and joy. Throwing beautiful funerals for the things we don’t need”, she remarked on her Instagram.

Whether you’re pairing an elegant one-shoulder top with a beautiful maxi-skirt pictured here, or with a pair of tailored pants, you won’t be going wrong with this fit come January. Hoffman shows us that this style top is more of a staple than a trend as she carries this daring style into the spring.

Puffy Sleeves

We’ve done bell-sleeves and cuffed-sleeves but Mara has made her case this time around for elegant puffy sleeves that elevate any look.  This three-piece outfit, with top, skirt and cropped jacket, make the perfect combination and would be the perfect outfit for any spring event.

While the whole Spring lineup had unmistakable dreamy and carefree vibes, this look spoke the most to me because I immediately pictured myself riding on an open road with a scarf tied around my head covering my hair. Hoffman stated that this show was dedicated to “letting go, letting our grief and broken parts be loved and learned and then buried back into the earth, reabsorbed to grow again as something new”. Seeing little details like a scarf added to a simple white dress put me in the mood to relax and just go for a drive with the top down.

Colorful Pant Suits

As a proponent of women’s rights initiatives, it makes sense that Hoffman would provide another fun take on a suit, this year providing us with a juicy clementine color to play with. Keep your eye out for your best fit next season.

In a world where we are all concerned with what shoe to wear… high heels? Kitten? Stiletto? Hoffman allows us to see the block-heel in so many new possibilities this season, paired with beautiful flowing dresses as well as structured pantsuits.
