Sushi Den (Denver): Fresh Sushi Has A Whole New Meaning
You’d hardly notice this sushi place from the outside. It’s in a concrete gray building and the name of the restaurant is barely visible. If you’re ever passing by around the time they open for dinner, you’ll see the line of people stretching down the street and know you’ve found Sushi Den.
This sushi place is located on Pearl Street and I just couldn’t figure out why it was hailed the best sushi in all of Denver. So, my boyfriend and I made our way down on a Friday at noon, hoping we wouldn’t be met by a line like the dinner rush usually was (they don’t take reservations for parties smaller than five).
We got seated right away and headed towards the back of the place, which seemed to go on forever. This place was a lot bigger than it let on outside, and was filled with beautiful art, paper lanterns and warm lighting. It was like a modern, chic take on regular sushi dining décor.
There were two menus, but lots to choose from. Fresh fish was flown in daily, and they also had specials, like salmon from New Zealand or wild yellowtail from Japan. I chose the Sushi Lunch, which was a collection of many different types of fish, and a wagyu roll, because a roll with wagyu beef sounded amazing.
Before my sushi came out, they gave me miso soup. This was the best miso soup I’ve ever had. It tasted like it was made in-house, and made me excited for my sushi. My Sushi Lunch came out and looked beautiful, not like regular sushi from any other sushi place.
After eating some though, I got it. I got why this place was hailed as the best sushi place in all of Denver. The fish was delicate and buttery, and I even ate and liked the shrimp, and I’m a staunch shrimp hater. My wagyu beef roll didn’t live up to my expectations, because while it was good, it was a little big and the roll would fall apart when I tried to eat it. I won’t fault them on that though, because I came to see what the fish was all about.
But now I can see why people line down the block for this place. Sushi Den, is in fact, the best sushi in Denver.
