Skin Makeover: From Acne Scars to a Healthy Glow
Acne sucks. But what sucks even more is everything that is left after the pimples go away. Hyperpigmentation and indentations in your skin are just a few of the lovely parting gifts left over that we didn’t ask for.
Dealing with acne for the past ten years, I’ve tried countless products in an attempt to erase the aftermath of my breakouts. After years of trial and error, my preemptive routine has cracked the code, my skin has never looked dewier. Click through for our fave products that will finally give you the skin you deserve.
Sunscreen ‘Ery Damn Day
Dealing with Hyperpigmentation babe? Load up on Sunscreen because it is your new savior, blessing, and holy grail. The sun darkens pigmentation, so if you’re not lathered in that SPF… check yourself and your choices. Try our fave La Roche Posey or Korean favorite A’Pieu Pure Block Natural Sun Cream.
Microneedling
Microneedling or more commonly known as the “Vampire Facial” is one of the beauty treatments that seems daunting but actually leaves you plump a la Oliva Culpo. The treatment consists of a dermatologist drawing your blood, who then spins it in a centrifuge to extract the PRP, and finally re-injects it back into your face. While seemingly daunting, this technique helps get rid of indentation, deep scarring as the needles create microscopic wounds that induce collagen and elastin. Take our advice and get this done by a professional since there’s less room for error.
Chemical Peels
These really changed the game for me. Chemical peels must be done by a professional, so please don’t do this one at home. If you do, say hello to chemical burns and even more scarring. A Chemical peel is a skin resurfacing procedure where chemicals are applied to the skin to remove the top layers. Pro Tip: get this treatment done at least a week before any big events. While gross at first (re: shedding like a snake), you’ll see a noticeable difference in your hyperpigmentation and indentations once your face metamorphosis is complete.
Last but not least: time. These aren’t quick fixes, so don’t give up if you don’t notice a difference within a few weeks. Stick with these treatments and products and you’ll notice change slowly but surely.
