Saudi Crown Prince Forgiven? An Update on the Jamal Khashoggi Case

FINALLY, an update. For those of you babes who are in with the times, you might remember that the last update I wrote was several months ago, even though the Khashoggi murder trial began soon after his murder. Hm.

For those of you just breezing past this article, here’s a little background. Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi Arabian journalist who often wrote for the Washington Post. He was seen entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2 and was never seen coming out of the building. Since his murder, there has been evidence piling up against Saudi’s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman who allegedly hired 16 hit men to torture and dismember Khashoggi because of his less than positive views about his home country.

Countries like Turkey came out against the Crown prince, while Trump allied America with Saudi, some say in order to keep their arms deal going.

Since then, it’s been almost silent. We heard of the murder trial beginning and then nothing. Now, on April 10, Khashoggi’s son, Salah, publicly thanked the crown prince for his generosity towards their family. Odd. Supposedly, the Saudi prince has showered the Khasshogi family with gifts like expensive houses, and suddenly everything’s okay between them.

Now, with the reputation that Saudi Arabia has been known to have, we can only imagine what’s going on behind the curtains. Is the Khasshogi family actually grateful for the Saudi prince’s generosity or is it a nice little way to say, “keep your mouth shut”? And will we hear anything else about this case, or does this mean it’s over, even though no one was formally prosecuted for Jamal’s murder?

As always, I’ll keep digging, so you don’t have to.

I got my information from Business Insider.
