Met Gala 2019: Jaw Dropping Beauty Moments That We Can't Stop Thinking About
The Met Gala was established by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert in 1948. To this day, the Met Gala is an annual fundraising event that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute and the celebration of the institute’s annual fashion exhibit in New York City. Each year the Met Gala has a specific theme that guests are to adhere to. This year’s theme is Camp. According to Wikipedia Camp is “an aesthetic style that regards something as appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value.”
Camp isn’t present in just the fashion looks that showed up on the pink carpet, but played into marvelous makeup and hair styles that we can not stop thinking about.
Sophie Turner
Game Of Thrones goddess and newlywed to Joe Jonas absolutely stunned on the pink carpet. Celebrity stylist Christian Wood put together her bold glittery, slicked back hair. Wood got his inspiration once he saw Turner’s outfit. He said with all the sequins he knew he had to incorporate some shine into her hairstyle. To get this look:
Dakota Johnson
Actress and model Dakota Johnson showed up with gorgeous silver crown with pink eyeshadow that was shaped perfectly. Her lipstick played well into the overall vibe. This wasn’t as “out there”” as a lot of the Camp looks on the carpet that night, but it still turned heads regardless. To emulate this look check out:
Lupita Nyong’o
Makeup artist Nick Barose is the creative genius behind Lupita Nyong’o’s Met Gala look. Barose knew that the Camp vibe was all about going over the top, playful and glam. So, the first thing that came to mind was drag queens - specifically the drag queen known as Divine. Some products he suggests to re-create this look are:
Yara Shahidi
The Sun Is Also A Star actress, Yara Shahidi’s Met Gala look was inspired by stars and zodiac signs. Emily Cheng is the makeup artist behind her look. Cheng says that Yara is constantly talking about her zodiac sign, so it made sense to create a look around it. Yara is an Aquarius, so the gems resemble the flowing water that symbolizes the water bearer. To get this look:
