I Tried At-Home Eyelash Extensions.... Here’s What Happened...
Fact of life: eyelash extensions make you look bomb, even after you just wake up. Another fact of life: eyelash extensions are expensive as hell. Getting a set can be upwards of $150, and getting them filled every couple of weeks is going to set you back another 50 bucks (at least). So, what’s a girl who’s desperate for beautiful lashes to do? Try DIY lash extensions at home…duh.
The process was relatively simple, especially because my friend helped me. She walked me through everything, in case I wanted to do them myself in the future…and also my eyes were closed the whole time so I couldn’t see what was going on. She first taped my lower eyelashes down so they wouldn’t be in the way. She then put a tiny dot of glue on a piece of foil, took an eyelash extension with a pair of pointed tweezers (they were new, don’t share tweezers people) and glued it to my lash line. Repeat until lash line is full.
While the glue did sting my eyes when I opened them, I was in love. They were very natural looking, like almost undetectable, but they made me feel beautiful as hell. I felt like they distracted from my acne scars and I felt 1000x more confident, even when I rolled out of bed. I also saved money, so it was like a win-win-win.
That is until I tried to take them off. My friend told me coconut oil was the magic potion and they would slip right off, but I definitely pulled my own poor eyelashes off in the process. Ouch.
So, would I do it again? Maybe. They did make me feel more confident 24x7, but I would definitely need actual eyelash glue remover at the ready. For now, though, strip lashes are my best friend, and I’m very okay with that.
