How To Make Your Unrealistic New Year's Resolutions, Realistic
It’s finally the New Year, so you know what that means. The dreaded resolution season. Everyone is so chipper posting what they’re resolutions are on Twitter, but I bet if you check in with them two weeks later, they’ll pretend like they have no idea what you’re talking about.
New Year resolutions suck. You go in with good intentions but you can never seem to find one that you can stick with. And here’s why: you’re being too broad. Loving yourself and eating healthier sound great, but where the hell do you start? And how do you know when you’ve accomplished it? Let’s go ahead and translate some common resolutions so that this time around, you’ll actually stick to them.
Eat Healthier
Okay so like…wtf does that mean? Eat a salad once a day? Eat a vegetable once a week? Change this resolution into whatever you need “healthy” to be for you. So instead, maybe you want to watch your calories to eat more/less, or maybe you want to cut down on salt, or just eat out less. Healthy can mean anything, so narrow it down.
Get Fit
Okay, cool. Lots of people want to get fit. But kind of like the one above, getting fit can mean anything. Do you want to lose weight? Gain more muscle? Become more flexible? Once you’ve narrowed that down, don’t forget to make a schedule so you stick to your new resolution.
Save Money
Girl, you can say that again. This resolution is close to my heart, and you know why? Because this is my resolution every year and I never stick to it because this is a broad-ass resolution. Girl, how much money do you want to have in your account by the end of the year? Set a number. Have people hold you accountable. Be specific. Do you see the theme here?
Love Yourself
This one is a little different, because you might not see physical results. But it will make a world of a difference, especially if you narrow it down. Do you need to be kinder to yourself? Do you need to give yourself more breaks? Then practice saying five kind things to yourself daily. Practice saying “no” when you’re stressed. Set time in your schedule for mental health days. And don’t forget to treat yo’self when needed. Alright babes, good luck with your new New Year resolutions! And if you accidentally fall off the wagon, don’t give up, just try again! You’ve got this.
