How Do We Develop Our Own Fashion Style?

Where do your style decisions actually come from? What insights do they offer? If we knew the source of why we liked dressing a certain way, would it make us dress with more flourishing comfort?

There are very many insights, elements of wisdom, and plain good sense that go into enjoying new styles. For example, wearing colors that suit you can help elevate an outfit to the next level, and depending on your eye and hair color, features, and skin tone, your colors may differ. This is also backed up by the wisdom that you can look good in everything if you’re confident enough to try it.

Other elements of style wisdom include the fact that clothes often look better when fitted correctly to your frame, unless baggy wear is part of the aesthetic. Simple elements like this help us dress well no matter what choices we make, and also give us room for experimentation from the top down. Even if it takes us plenty of garments to get there, some in storage units, deciding our fashion can be and endless joy.

So far, so good. But one question remains. Where do your style decisions actually come from? What insights do they offer? If we knew the source of why we liked dressing a certain way, would it make us dress with more flourishing comfort?

In this post, we’ll discuss how you might go about understanding your approach to style:

Cultural & Ethnic Influences

Of course, you don’t necessarily have to adhere to cultural or ethnic norms, but in a way nothing you dress in will be entirely divorced from that. Even American blue jeans or items we consider to be basic, like a basic white t-shirt, might not be the exact standard in another country. It can be healthy to connect to your routes, appreciate the style insight of another nation, or even blend your style inspirations. Those who look to other cultures tend to have the most interesting and dynamic fashion.

Media & Pop Culture

There is absolutely no shame in feeling inspired by seeing a public figure wearing something you like, be that a singer in the seventies, a modern rock star, or someone who you think dresses well and elegantly, like a writer you think should be more famous. Media and pop culture absolutely has an impact on fashion, and don’t feel bad if it does to yours too. As long as you make it your own and don’t try to conform to what others look like, you have the best of both worlds.

Mood & Emotional States

Our mood has more of an effect on the kind of dress we adhere to, which is why fashion is often so closely associated with music and its very many scenes and expressions. Of course, that doesn’t mean those who like goth fashion are suddenly very sour and cruel because of the aesthetic they like, many are super friendly and can even be goofy in a good way, but it’s true that the fashion can sometimes adhere to the emotional states you enjoy or like to express most, even in a fun way. As such, don’t feel shame if you want to dress in more expressive wear, or if neater options align to you more readily.

With this advice, you’re certain to manage your style in the best possible sense.
