Can Meditating Help You Have Better Orgasms?

By Macy Berendsen

If you’re in a sexual rut and can’t seem to find a solution, try turning to meditating.

Pairing meditating with sex sounds odd, but really, both acts connect to our minds and our bodies, just with different intentions. With intimacy, not everything will work for every person, but it’s worth a try to connect with your body and try a new approach with your sex life.

The female orgasm has been more of a mystery in society than the male orgasm, even though it doesn’t have to be. Incorporating mediation in your daily routine will not only help with reducing stress and relaxing your body, but it may also help with having better orgasms. There are many studies about the benefits of mindfulness in correlation to improving women’s sexual roadblocks, and meditation is a mindfulness tactic that is easy and accessible so everyone can participate.

How Does Meditation Correlate to Orgasms?

Studies have found that women who practice meditation on average have “improved sexual function associated with overall better mental health” (From researchers Iulia Dascalu and Lori A. Brotto). There is not a strong correlation between length and frequency of meditation, so even a quick few minutes of meditating might just do the trick. It’s all about getting into the right headscape and allowing our bodies to feel at peace. It’s important to be in the moment with your partner and with yourself during sex. Open up a mediating app to go through a small session, look up a meditation podcast, or just take some deep breaths and let yourself relax.

Another study found that this sexual mindfulness leads to improved relationships and improved sexual satisfaction, especially with women. Being irritable and unfocused isn’t great for any daily tasks, so it definitely won’t be great when it comes to a sexual experience. Allowing yourself a bit of time to reclaim your energy and adjust your mindset makes sense that it would make a world of a difference when it comes to sexual satisfaction.

What is Orgasmic Meditation?

Along with meditating before sexual experiences, there is a method called “orgasmic meditation,” which Healthline calls “a unique wellness practice that combines mindfulness, touching and pleasure” that is focused solely on female genitalia. It’s an experience (with a partner or alone) of stroking the female genitalia in a very specific way in a gentle motion.

There has been some controversy in the media with orgasmic meditation at its relation to the Kardashians and Gwyneth Paltrow, it’s gone from taboo to a praised method of mediation in correlation with sex. There is even a 2021 study that claims that both people who participate in orgasmic meditation can transform to a meditative state, not just the partner with the clitoris.

If traditional mediation isn’t your thing, you may want to consider looking into orgasmic meditation. It’s an opportunity to tune in with your body as a sexual being instead of feeling the pressure to have a sensational sexual performance for others.

So, what’s the verdict?

In 2024, look to different forms of meditating to improve your sex life. Whether that be traditional meditation, orgasmic meditation, or a method more comfortable for you, opening yourself up to get in the right headspace and get in tune with your body can end in results that do not include a better orgasm, but stronger relationships, trust in yourself and an improved overall mood. The great thing about meditation is that it can be done alone or with a partner. Maybe you and your partner want to explore something new this year, or maybe you want to focus on learning about your body more, either way, meditation is a great method to consider. Put yourself and pleasure first this year by trying new things and not being afraid to engage in a new practice!
