Cyril Verdavainne Goes Independent with Eclectic Evening Wear
Sometimes a girl just needs a beautiful, simple dress. Nothing fussy, not over-the-top, no need to make a giant statement. There are occasions when we need something fabulous yet unassuming, when we’re not the center of attention but still want to turn a few heads (because, obvi, that’s a must for any occasion), when the message we want to convey is, “Yes, I’m gorgeous; yes, I wear gorgeous gowns with a little bit of an edge, but let’s not talk too much about me tonight. I’m here to shine my light on the main event.” For such an occasion, ladies, Cyril Verdavainne has your dress.
Press Night for the designer’s new collection of evening wear was an intimate affair at the Andaz 5th Avenue across from Bryant Park. The downtown location’s towering buildings and twinkling street lights against the night sky were the ultimate welcome to the collection of sparkling evening dresses I found in the showroom. An elegant woman greeted me with lovely hospitality, while two models (who actually looked joyful and happy to be there, can you imagine?) walked the room showcasing the designer’s tasteful frocks. Then, Verdavainne entered with a charming warmth of his own.
He took the time to speak with me about the collection, describing the sequined materials, youthful vinyl fabrications, and gunmetal paint-dipped flowers fastened to one of the gowns. He indulged me in creating a Live Story for Instagram, asking one of his models to put on a dress I had especially admired and explaining the cut and construction while I filmed. He was generous and absolutely delightful. And so were his dresses.
He said the collection embodied three generations of women who could enjoy the fun of shopping for an event together and each be able to find their perfect dress.
Daughter was represented in shorter cocktail cuts and offbeat vinyl belting and patent leather piping.
Mother could be seen in a gorgeous halter jumpsuit, mermaid silhouettes, and plunging V necks.
And matriarch was found in matelassé and more modest necklines.
Verdavainne is excited to create a trusted family of master artisans to manufacture the collection here in the city. Gotta love pretty dresses #MadeInNYC!
