NYFW: Tibi Proves They Are The Champs Of Colorblocking
Watching the Tibi runway each Fashion Week feels like I've enrolled for another semester of Tibi University to get my degree in color-blocking.
The lessons they had for me did not disappoint this time around and proved once again that they invented this modern-day art, with designer Amy Smilovic as the professor.
Yes I said art- finding specific shirts and pants that are the specific shade of certain colors to contrast with shoes and a purse is a talent, and Tibi does a damn good job of giving us the recipes to do so.
Some of my favorites from this fine fresh batch below:
Pumpkin + Burnt Siena + Cobalt
Banana + Daffodil + Powder Pink
Royal Blue + Midnight + Greige (Grey Beige)
Besides the usual favorite color-blocking magic that they always provide, I picked up on five other signature looks that Tibi will be displaying in a few months.
Subliminal Message That Flip Flops Are A Thing
On the very first model on the runway, I gave the whole look the ol' up and down, and my eyes quickly locked in on the shoes. Flip-flops? On my runway? It's more likely than you'd think. Smilovic made flip-flops cool this season and shows you how to wear them with everything under the sun, including but not limited to: plaid pantsuits, jeans and a blazer, and trench coats.
Unfitted Two-Piece Suits
Tibi is really about making gender neutral pieces, and even had several men walk about the runway on Sunday night. This year's best neutral piece was this pretty two-piece set to wear to feel cozy and comfortable as the season changes.
Why Buy Anything But Your Favorite Color?
Your next lesson at Tibi University is called Monochrome Fashion 101. Tibi says it's okay to only wear one color (and no we're not talking about black) as long as you make it cool, as shown here with an emerald tone leather bag.
Sarong-Style Ties For Your Tropical Getaway
Looking at the different dresses and tops in a Sarong fashion makes me want to mess around, and book a Spirit Airlines flight to a Caribbean Island this February (even if I have to fly the plane myself). Once I book the tickets, I'll definitely need one of those dresses for the vacation.. hint hint Tibi...
Utilitarian Pieces We Can Get Behind
Once I saw this navy blue structured number I couldn't help but think about all of the occasions it would be marvelous for.. like with Adidas falcons to run to Target to get those gel pens that I've been meaning to pick up, or with some purple rain booties and a khaki trench coat on a rainy April day, or even with some strappy block heels and a bright pink Carrie Bradshaw-esque shoulder purse with a chain to go out and look trendy enough to order a blueberry lemonade with vodka.
