Brunchin' on a Budget: The Top Brunch Spots in DC When You're Low on Funds

Brunch is the trend that just won't end. Acceptable day drinking? Check. Good food? Yes. Did I already say endless Champagne? I mean, really, who could ever hate brunch? Well, except those of us who don’t have the funds to cash out with our brunch-time connoisseur friends.  Because if you’re not budgeting right, brunch can honestly turn into another bill (albeit delicious, a bill nevertheless). So, to all my DC folks, if you’re in the city looking for a good brunch spot without breaking the bank, I am here to help.  In no particular order, here are the top 5 spots in Washington, D.C. for brunchin’ on a budget!

El Centro D.F.

El Centro is one of my favorite bar/restaurants in DC! It’s multilevel, and has a rooftop area that gives you that boss b*tch feeling every time you go up there.  Their drinks are, most importantly, strong as hell! This is your warning!  For $39 you can get unlimited food (yum!) and drinks, yes that’s $39 TOTAL, all while vibing to Latin music. And if you still think the price is steep, just remember, you’re getting unlimited food & drinks; so, even if you don’t feel like it’s a good deal, you’ll be able to drink until you do.

Fainting Goat

For $18 and the purchase of an entrée, you’ll receive unlimited mimosas.  The Fainting Goat’s (I’ll never get over that name) has a simple brunch menu, with options as cheap as $10. Plus, their unsurprisingly yummy mimosa flavors: white cranberry; mango; and, of course, the traditional OJ. As it’s on the now infamous U Street, it’s bound to be bustling and busy when you embark on your brunch experience -- get there early, it’s worth the wake up.

Cuba Libre

Slightly unrelated, but if you’re in the mood for some salsa (the dance, not the thing you dip chips into) on a Friday or Saturday night, this is the place to go! I always have so much fun here whenever I go! Circling back, brunch.  Foodies, this one’s for you. You can get three items from the menu for just short of $25; drinks aren’t included, but, you can add bottomless mimosas or bloody marys for a little under $17.  Still, in my opionin, three items for $25 is definitely a steal!

The Front Page

Who loves buffets? Me. Endless food? Sold. Especially when it’s right in the center of the city. At Front Page, you get a bottomless buffet for around $25.  Bottomless, people!!! Disclaimer, drinks cost extra.  But, for only $12 more, you can add a little mimosa to your bottomless. Nevertheless, $25 for unlimited food is a great bargain. And with a full bottomless menu only coming out to $37, I’d still go back. And if you really want to be drunk but are stoically opposed to paying extra for mimosa’s, just pregame a little (we’re not judging, I promise).

DC Harvest

At DC Harvest, you get $20 bottomless mimosas and $25 bottomless bloody marys during brunch.  The great part about this one is that purchase of an entrée isn’t necessary: you can get a side or an appetizer… but who doesn’t love a liquid brunch?   So, for all my frugal folks, just get one of these tasty appetizers or sides, go forth, and prosper!
